Is it free for charities to use Project Unicorn?
Yes, registration and use of Project Unicorn is completely free for charities. Our goal is to help you access the resources you need without spending your limited funds.
What types of donations can we receive through Project Unicorn?
You can receive a wide variety of gifts, including furniture, tech equipment, marketing support, training, venue hire, and more. Donors list items or services they’re happy to give away – and you can also post a Wish for anything your charity specifically needs.
Can we claim multiple donations or just one at a time?
You can claim as many available gifts as are relevant and useful to your organisation. We just ask that you only claim what you can realistically use, so resources are fairly distributed and nothing goes to waste.
Can we connect directly with donors after claiming a gift?
Yes – once you’ve claimed a donation, you’ll be put in touch with the donor to arrange collection or delivery. We encourage open communication to ensure a smooth handover and build strong relationships.
Can we give feedback or share our success story?
Absolutely! We love hearing how donations have helped your organisation. You can share feedback through your account or contact us directly to be featured in a success story – it’s a great way to inspire more giving.
How to I get a gift? Can it be reserved?
As soon as you find a gift that you like, it is strictly on first come first served basis, so search and contact the Unicorn as soon as possible by phone or email. We encourage local involvement between Charities and Unicorns but this cannot be guaranteed.
What’s the benefit of using Project Unicorn?
By donating through Project Unicorn, you give your surplus a second life — reducing waste, supporting local charities, and showcasing your business as a force for good. It’s a practical, impactful way to clear space and make a difference, all while potentially qualifying for tax relief.
What is a unicorn?
In our world, a “Unicorn” is a business that gives! Whether you’re offering products, services, skills or space, you become a Unicorn when you join the Project Unicorn community and start donating to good causes.
Can I claim tax relief for sponsoring a charity through donations on Project Unicorn?
Yes, in many cases! According to HMRC guidance, sponsorships can be treated as business expenses and deducted from your profits before tax, provided there’s a clear benefit to your business — like your brand being publicly promoted by the charity you support or if the charity allows you to use their logo in your own printed material.
Always check with your accountant for specifics.
Why do Unicorns pay a subscription fee?
Your subscription helps keep Project Unicorn running smoothly – from verifying charities, matching donations, and managing listings, to promoting your good deeds. Plus, it supports the tech behind the platform that makes all of this magic possible.
The registration fee includes VAT at the standard rate, calculated at checkout.
What are wishes?
A Wish is a post created by a charity when they need something specific – like office chairs, graphic design help, or catering for an event. As a Unicorn, you can browse these Wishes and respond directly with offers to help.
